World Bank pushing government on land reform
Published in: SA With Love News
Date: 12 July 2007
Category: National
Issue No:

According to the Financial Mail, SA land affairs officials are studying a World Bank report that recommends scrapping many of the laws regulating low-cost housing and township development.

The report contains policy reform recommendations certain to prove contentious for landowners, green lobbyists and environmental authorities, notes the FM. They include persuading municipalities to locate low-cost housing settlements on high-value peri-urban land, slashing environmental impact assessment requirements for township developments, and encouraging subdivision of large land holdings.
